UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACT OF FIRECRACKER BAN ON THE CRACKER INDUSTRY.
"It is estimated that the impact of the ban on this industry will be around 500 crores. Looking at the number, it is obvious that livelihoods of various small scale dealers and workers are affected due to this ban, but what have the respective governments of states done to compensate for this loss?"

As the festival of light Diwali approaches, the tale of the ban on firecrackers also arrives. Just a few days ahead of Diwali, many State Governments of India have imposed a ban on burning crackers in the name of pollution control. You will find a number of people appreciating the efforts of several governments because they find this move will protect the environment. But what is the other side of this story?
Production this year was half the previous year due to fears of loss. Last year production was around 3000 crores and this year it will be around 1500 crores. Due to the Ban imposed on these items the loss is estimated to be 500 crore. Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu is the manufacturing Hub for the firecracker industry. Around 90% of the total production is accounted from there, most of the population is indulged in the production of Crackers especially women but due to these continuous bans on the peak of their season, their sources to earn for livelihood are decreasing.
In an interview with the India Today Network, many female workers have reported that they have done this work all their lives and do not know any other skill apart from this and the constant ban is making their lives miserable. Mr. Kannan, director of Shree Balaji fireworks, told the Financial express that they and their industry, including their workers, are not prepared for these bans. Their revenue is degrading due to these mindless bans being imposed on them.
I am still unaware of what state governments have prepared to safeguard the interests of these people. Especially the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal who has openly imposed the ban on Diwali stating that fireworks are the major reason for pollution in Delhi that brings me to my next point,
Top Ten Factors which result in Air Pollution. I was going through some articles and searching for the percentage constituted by firecrackers and found out that firecrackers do not even make it to the Top ten List. Moreover, the whole firecracker emission constituted 5% of total air pollution in which the percentage of Diwali Firecrackers, in particular, will be even lower. One of the major causes of air pollution and a lower air quality index is the burning up of Crops (also known as Parali), which is also a constant factor causing air pollution especially in New Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. But none of these governments has proposed a Ban on Parali or has offered a better alternative to burning crops, so why? If the environment is the main factor of worry for governments, then why are they not acting on other top issues and the ones that constitute around another 95% of pollution?
I understand there are some factors that are essential and cannot be changed immediately, but as far as festivals are concerned Why crackers are Banned on Diwali, Why Not on New year eve? If the environment is the main concern for these Woke Governments of their Respective States, why do they not react on Eid? As per the Data, more than 70% of carbon emissions occur due to meat cutting and what about Cutting up trees On Xmas, does it not result in Environmental Degradation?
There are some questions that cannot be left unanswered because partiality in the implementation of Policy is clearly visible, so it is important that we address these issues before things get more adverse.
