Understanding and Decoding PM Narendra Modi’s high Approval ratings

 Global leader Approval Ratings 2021

Modi’s Approval Ratings Remain highest Among the 13 Global Leaders with a Magnificent 70%."

Recently, an Intelligence company and US-based Data firm, named Morning Consult Group, conducted a survey that included Leaders of big countries and their approval ratings by the people.

The results of the survey are as follows:

As per the Results... it is clearly visible that Indian PM Narendra Modi's approval Ratings outran all other Leaders, including US president Joe Biden and the German Chancellor. How is it possible?

Despite all the protests, dissent, Covid Criticism and hate, especially in the last two years, Narendra Modi remains unchallenged. Let's hop in and try to understand the reasons behind this Poll.

India battled through the severe second wave of Covid and bounced back bravely. Our country is way ahead in vaccinating its population from the rest of the world. India Created a world record, by giving out 25 Million jabs to mark PM Modi’s birthday. It's just a glimpse of the scale of the popularity of Narendra Modi but how is he able to achieve it and keep it consistent?

To understand the reasons behind the rise of Narendra Modi, I have studied a Prosperity Index which is Developed by the Institute of Global Prosperity at the University of London. This institute conducted a survey to understand how the people of the Modern world viewed Prosperity.

The major outcome of the study was that Economic Growth, Physical construction, or Infrastructural Growth is not enough to provide a sense of Prosperity or does not define well being. In more simple words Economic growth does not set a standard for overall well-being.

According to the UCL study, respondents were asked to speak about factors that determine criteria for well-being. According to them, Affordable homes, Good cheap transportation Facilities,  Cheap Digital Internet, and many other factors that make life easy determines prosperity.

Try and compare some of Modi government's major policies and programmes-

  1. Growth in Digital Infrastructure:  Due to the enormous growth of infrastructure, has made direct transfers by the government to the accounts of the beneficiaries very easy and middlemen free. This has reduced the amount of corruption and as per the data after 2014, this method has been used to transfer 8.22 Lakh crore rupees of funds through government schemes directly into the Bank account of the beneficiaries. This scheme alone has affected 900 million people and sent out 60% of the welfare in a country that was once a mere 15%.

  1. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Mission: Second on the list is PMAY, whose objective is to provide homes for the Urban Poor. This scheme has built 5 million homes already, and another 9 million are under construction.

  1. Jalshakti Program: Another mission undertaken by the government aims to provide tap water for every household in the country. As per the data, Only 16% had the privilege of drinking water from the tap, and now more than 42% have been covered.

  1. Now Let's Talk about Data: The Internet is the cheapest in India which costs about $00.09. The consumption of the internet in India has gone up about 1300% in the last 5-7 years. Government schemes are planning to cover villages with the Broadband connection.

The narrative that India is still a developing country and still needs to fulfil its basic needs is nothing new and it's obvious, however, solving this problem that too with the challenge of covering the largest population has been an issue post-independence, especially when it comes to sanitation and hygiene, India used to be at the bottom. This brings us to the next: as per the data published on Fortuneindia.com when Modi came to power in 2014,100 million toilets were built to eliminate the defecation of waste.

For the first time since independence, Indian Railways has announced it will introduce bio-toilets to stop excreta from landing upon the tracks, which were cleaned only manually by people belonging to the lower caste. This will not only induce hygiene but will reduce discriminatory practices.

Last but not least, Indian Road infrastructure, India has been doing a tremendous job when it comes to Road Infrastructure. Indian Highway construction in India has increased by 17% CAGR between FY16-FY21.

Despite the Lockdown  India has Constructed 13,298 Kms in FY 2021. As per the information available, India has set another world record of constructing 37 km per day in 2021 and is planning to make it 100Kms per day, which was 12 km before 2014-15.

Besides this, Narendra Modi no doubt has his own Ground Feedback system which helps him to connect directly with the ground reality. There are only a few people who were aware of this feedback system till now, which in turn, creates a Human Infrastructure.

India is a diverse country and has its unique challenges. Still, achieving a 70% approval rating is something that requires the attention of all Indians. In the end, here is a question for you all: Do you approve of Narendra Modi as a leader or not?
